Adam Hill
Indigenous Painter, Cartoonist & Didgeridoo Performer (Sydney, NSW)
Adam Hill is an accomplished painter, graphic
designer and illustrator, fitting a unique niche for
culturally specific
design.
Adam has a family history of artisans and
grew surounded and nurtured in art practices. He draws inspiration
from many contemporary Australian
artists both Indigenous and Non-Indigenous. Mostly influenced by
landscapes, Adam is also a keen advocate of social justice. The two
are often combined
in his works.
Adam studied Graphic Design at UWS Nepean
and prides himself on having no formal training in painting. Adam is
a multi
award winner in the medium of acrylic on canvas, and thrice finalist
in the
Telstra National Indigenous Art Prize. An accomplished mural artist,
Adam has innate ability to work with children, often benefiting
him when working on community projects. Adam's public artworks have
adorned
the walls of schools, council structures and shopping malls. Adam
is also the current contributing illustrator for VIBE magazine, Sydney.
Over
the past six years, Adam has staged 10 solo exhibitions and an equal
number of group and invitational showings.
The most
recent successes were celebrated at MORI gallery Sydney and BIRRUNG
gallery
Leichhardt. Recent aquisitions of works have been made by Liverpool
City Council and Parliament of NSW.
Adam is also an accomplished performer of Yidaki (Didgeridoo).
Unique in the fact that he has formal training from cultural tutors
and custodians
of the instrument, the Yolngu of North East Arnhem Land. Adam has performed
for Mr. NELSON MANDELA, The DEADLYs, The Festival of the Dreaming,
the Rugby World Cup opening ceremony and the final of AUSTRALIAN IDOL.
He has toured internationally, Italy, Canada, Vietnam,
Singapore, Latin America and the South Pacific, both solo and with
MUSICA VIVA.
Adam has formed many collaboratives including two self funded recordings
specialising in the fusion of Jazz and Blues with Yidaki. Adam prides
the origins of his solo performance from extensive self promoted
shows in schools throughout NSW, and, as a resident performer at the
Art
Gallery of NSW.
Adam is available for commission paintings and Yidaki
