Amanda Owen-Evans
Photographer (Elanora, QLD)

Amanda Owen-Evans nee Townsend is a fine artist / photographer who has recently emigrated to the Gold Coast from London, England. Born in Epping, London in 1976, Amanda grew up in London, Jakarta & Hong Kong where she found the cultural environments & diversities inspiring. So much so that culture, identity and ways of life became a strong dynamism to her work.

She has exhibited work in galleries, private venues and disused public places including Minimal Existence, Isokon Flats, Lawn Road, Belsize Park and Tunnelvision, Aldwych Underground Station, as a part of ‘London Open House’.

She has recently looked at the importance of artefacts and how material culture, its acquisition and appropriation, is integral to the construction and negotiation of social worlds and identities.

Her work involves many different mediums, including photography, sculpture, film and video and printmaking. She has made works by producing a series of porcelain casts of ephemera that are taken for granted in the western world and distorting and challenging assumptions through the use of photography, collage and illustration.

Artists Statement :I would call myself a ‘systematic’, I find myself methodologically grouping collections of objects in order to represent a set of principles. As a starting point I often find that a single word or phrase can develop into a number of exciting outcomes. I organise and categorise my ideas through experimentation and exploration. My most recent work explores a journey through Venezuela.
