Katrina
Fox Actor,
Comedian, Writer (Sydney, NSW) Katrina
first gained a degree in performance art at Middlesex University in the UK in
1990, majoring first in dance, then drama. Her background includes acting, writing
and performing mostly comedy, black comedy and high camp drama. She
currently works as a freelance journalist and is a published non-fiction author.
Since moving to Sydney, she has started to get back into writing and performing
her own material, as well as taking part in other people's creative projects in
theatre, television and film. As well as being drawn to dark, bizarre and twisted
themes, she has a flair for comedy, black comedy, high camp and eccentricity.
Influences and inspirations include Debbie Harry, Marianne
Faithfull, Lydia Lunch, John Waters, Andy Warhol, Joe Orton, Leigh Bowery, Mike
Leigh, David Lynch, Alan Bennett. After graduating from
university, Katrina worked in fringe theatre in London, during which time she
performed a one-woman play, "Adult Child / Dead Child" by Claire Dowie
and devised shows with gay and lesbian theatre company Outcast. Recent
performances include a self-contained comic monologue, "Shirley", which
she also wrote, at the Creative Industry night held by Merelyplayers in the Attic
Bar at the Arthouse Hotel in Sydney. "Shirley" is a work in progress.
She also performed a comic burlesque double act, "A Schoolgirl's Revenge"
as Kitty Minge, with Jilha Dottsdorter at fetish club Hellfire, as well as two
burlesque cabaret shows at Gurlesque: Salvationary Sluts, another double act with
Jilha Dottsdorter and another as Debbie-Would-If-She-Could, a comic skit on Blondie
singer Debbie Harry. She also played the part of Miss Lily, an eccentric life
coach in The Interview, a short film by Angela Little. Katrina
is interested in connecting with writers and performers who live and think outside
the mainstream and who are prepared to take risks and go outside the box
