Anton
Emdin
Animator
(Sydney, NSW)
Based
in Sydney, Anton is an illustrator / cartoonist / designer
who likes to dabble in a range of styles and disciplines, but primarily
calls himself an illustrator.
After
graduating form the College of Fine Arts (Paddington, Sydney) with a
BFA under his arm, Anton gained employment as a freelance graphic artist,
as well as producing comic books in the Australian underground scene.
During
2001 Anton created a series of animations for Fly TV, a digital TV channel
under the umbrella of the ABC (now defunct). Edgy
and original, Fly TV's motto was "Eating its young since 2001",
and Anton was given free reign to make a series of 'intersticials' -
small MTV style grabs to show in between programmes.
Anton
has worked in a variety of media, including newspaper cartoons, magazine
illustrations and comic strips, web, print, and logo design, online interactives
and television animation. He uses a mix of traditional and modern styles
to create his work, depending on the desired outcome.
In
most cases he will sketch in pencil, then use brush and India ink to
render the black and white art. From there the image is scanned, touched
up, and coloured electronically. Variations
of the colour process include hand colouring using paint, gouache, or
even pencil. On some occasions, Anton will 'trace' the image electronically
to provide a 'vector' (line, not bitmap) image.
