Lionel
Portier
Illustrator, Cartoonist &
Graphic Designer (Sydney, NSW)
Lionel was born in Lyons, France in 1965. He lived there
until aged 18 and moved abroad, studying art in Brussels (ENSAVC) for
5 years, and after graduating went to work in Hong Kong as a freelance
illustrator and designer. Travels led him then to South America, Paris
and Sydney where he now resides. His interest in maps is a refection
of his travelling soul.
His conceptual black and white drawings tell of the misery
and humourous contradictions of the human kind. He created a series
of designs for Mambo T-Shirts between 1999 and 2000, and is a regular
contributor to newspapers and magazines including Le
Monde (France), The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian Financial
Review, The Sun Herald, The Age, Boss and The Financial Review Magazine.
Publications that have also featured
his cartoons include Time Magazine, The Bulletin, BRW, HQ, Marie Claire,
Australian Geographic, MIS, Geo, Le Nouvel Observateur, Telerama, Asia
Inc., Business Online, The Asian Wall Street Journal, Together and Splatter
Magazine.
Lionel spends his time between freelance illustration
commissions and lecturing graphic design & illustration at Billy
Blue School of Graphic Arts in Sydney.
