Philippe
Moreau
Cartoonist & Sculptor (Bondi, NSW)
It was after visiting an Andy Warhol exhibition in 1989 that Philippe Moreau felt inspired to create images.
Philippe studied at the College of Fine Arts and completed a degree in Art Education in 1998. At the same time, he devoted a lot of time to theatre, which perhaps can be seen in the "staging" of the character on his planet.
His work is based on his illustrations in which his character is constantly travelling on a planet. The character’s journey is interrupted by varied encounters that in one way or another change the course of his planet. Often these encounters make direct references to recent political events, social issues or expressions of a state of mind. Philippe has recently started working in ceramics. His character has become three dimensional, stepping out of the canvas and into the “real” world.
Philippe will be part of the 2009 Sculpture by the Sea exhibiting some of his recent works.
Philippe has had his work featured in The Big Issue magazine and other various publications. He is currently working as an artist and teaching art part time.
Philippe is available for both commission and freelance work. To see more of his artworks you can visit Myplanete at myplanete.livejournal.com/
