Philippe
Moreau
Cartoonist (Bondi, NSW)
It was after visiting an Andy Warhol exhibition in 1989 than Philippe
Moreau felt inspired to create images.
Philippe studied at the College of Fine Arts and completed a degree
in Art Education in 1998. At the same time, he devoted a lot of time
to theatre, which perhaps can be seen in the "staging" of
the character on his planet.
He has now been drawing this little character for a few years. The
universe, which is the recurrent set for his drawings, symbolises the
character’s unknown potential and a timeless travel.
The character’s journey is interrupted by varied encounters that
in one way or another change the course of his planet. Often these
encounters make direct references to recent political events, social
issues or expressions of a state of mind.
Titles are also extremely important as they allow the drawing to
play with the paradoxical situations of the human life.
Philippe has had his work featured in The Big Issue magazine and other
various publications. He regularly exhibits his work and is currently
teaching art and working as a freelance cartoonist.
Philippe is available for both commission
and freelance work.
