Jane
Stephens
Dancer & Teacher (Northern
Beaches, NSW)
Jane
grew up at Collaroy Plateau, starting ballet, jazz and tap dancing lessons
at the age of eight under Violet Meldrum, with whom she continued her
studies into her twenties.
She
also studied jazz ballet with Ronnie Arnold, an afro-american dancer
who was in the first production of 'West Side Story' in Sydney and who
later became the head of The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dance
Company.
From
her mid-twenties to her thirties Jane took a break from dancing to raise
a family, later returning to study and becoming a 'music therapist'
at Rivendell, an adolescent unit for emotionally-distressed adolescents.
Jane
also taught dance and drama over a period of five years at 'The Forward
Care' performing arts holiday program at Crows Nest TAFE.
In
recent years Jane further upgraded her teaching skills by attaining
an Advanced Dance Teaching Certificate at The Queensland University
of Technology. She now teaches jazz and tap to adults, teenagers and
tots at Balgowlah, Neutral Bay and Narrabeen (The Tramshed Community
Centre).
Jane
would like to connect with potential dance students, singers, set designers
and musicians.
