Dancer (Manly, NSW)
Karenna
is an experienced dancer and yoga teacher with a great passion for Bellydance
and West African Dance. She has been dancing most of her life, and has
taught and performed throughout Australia for the last ten years. She
studied Physical Theatre at the Drama Action Centre (Sydney) and holds
a Diploma of Ki Yoga.
Karenna
founded, co-directed and toured with El Zaffa - Caravan Dance Theare.
A street theatre performance troupe, El Zaffa drew inspiration from
traditional African and Middle Eastern Rhythms. They performed at Woodford
Folk Festival, Canberra Folk Festival, Carnivale and numerous other
festivals throughout Australia.
Karenna
has worked, and continues to be invited to work as lead dancer with
world music bands such as Drum Arabic and Global Roots. As well as working
with established world music artists, she has also initiated and directed
her own creative projects. She
also holds workshops and dance classes that explore rhythm and movements
from around the world. As a teacher, her commitment is to increase peoples
sense of play and joy via dances, music and movement. She currently
runs 'Wild Grooves - for body & soul' every Monday night at Manly
Oval Hall.
Karenna
has a passionate commitment to creating and participating in events
that encourage community particiation. As a performer her aim is to
entertain and inspire people as well as increase awareness, understanding
and respect for varying cultural beliefs and experiences.
