Alan Nurthen

Screen acting teacher and independent filmmaker Alan Nurthen has taught on-camera acting and video production for the past 18 years at some of Sydney's most prominent acting schools and educational institutions, including the Australian Academy of Dramatic Art, the JMC Academy and Bradfield College. Alan also trained actors from 1988 to 1996 at his previous school, The Film and TV Academy in Dee Why. Alan's students have performed substantial dialogue roles in a variety of film and television productions, including The Matrix, The Phantom, Muriel's Wedding, The Thin Red Line, The Bangkok Hilton, White Collar Blue and Brides of Christ .

Alan trained as an actor at New Theatre and then spent 7 years performing in a variety of film and television productions before going behind the scenes. His film industry credits include, directing the Swearing-in Ceremony of Police Commissioner Peter Ryan for the NSW Film Archives, corporate videos for clients as diverse as MYOB and The Queensland Department of Primary Industries, music clips, and the documentary films.

Alan's current doco project is "Red-backs", a follow up to his previous film "Funnel Webs", which is an irreverent look at the deadly spider and its affect on the psyche of Sydneysiders. It has sold to over 50 countries internationally through Beyond Distribution. It screened on the Seven Network's "The World Around Us" last October and premieres on the Odyssey Channel on December 8, 2003. "Funnel Webs" also retails through The Australian Museum Shops and is part of the curriculum in science / biology / Australian Social Studies in secondary and high schools nationwide and is available through many public libraries including Manly & Mona Vale.
