Louise Tacon
Illustrator (Petersham, NSW)

Louise is a Sydney based illustrator who has loved drawing and writing since childhood. She studied illustration and design at the design centre Enmore (TAFE) which she completed in 2005. She also has a Bachelor of Arts in Professional Writing from the University of Canberra, which she completed in 2001.

Louise has an intricate, sensitive and detailed style and is skilled in the use of colour pencil, graphite pencil, ink, scraperboard and collage. She likes fine line work and layering colours to create dimension and visual appeal. She has a particular interest in depicting botanical subjects and draws inspiration from the patterns and colours in nature. She is also inspired by the work of other illustrators such as Arthur Rackman, Shaun Tan, Cicely Mary Barker and Nick Bantock. She has always had a deep interest in children’s literature and the interaction between words and pictures to communicate and inspire ideas.
