Sandi Harrold
lllustrator
(Brisbane, QLD)
Sandi was born and raised in the Queensland bush and now resides in Brisbane. She is a mother, kindergarten teacher and an E.S.L. teacher. She began learning to draw and paint in order to illustrate the children’s stories she writes in her spare time, but since discovering her passion for art she has moved her focus to painting.
Sandi attended OMSA (Onward Motivational School for Artists) where students are guided and motivated to paint from the heart. She has focused mainly on painting animals, especially emus and chooks, and her colourful fish paintings have caught the eye of many coastal dwellers. Recent trips to Kenya and Argentina have led to the addition of nature’s more exotic animals (Giraffes and elephants are favourites), as well as a foray into painting people.
Sandi’s first children’s book, Three Little Owls, has just been published.
Sandi says of her paintings ‘I like to think there is a story unfolding behind the scenes and I've captured the characters hatching a plot or deep in thought.’
Sandi continues to develop her skills and explore her passion and joy for art, and looks forward to continuing to share this passion and joy.
She has had great success in selling her art at various Art Shows and has just presented a show ‘i Spy’ at the Energyart Space Newstead, Brisbane, with fellow artist, Lindy Blackburn. Both artists enjoyed sales.
Artists Statement:
I love the outdoors and enjoy traveling, and my work reflects this. My pieces feature vibrant coloured, quirky subjects with huge eyes and quizzical expressions on their faces created for the sole purpose of stealing a smile from the viewer. If they don't create a smile -- I paint over them and start again!
Most recent exhibitions include the Creative Art Spectacular at the Old Museum in Brisbane, The i Spy exhibition held at Energy art Newstead, Brisbane, and various smaller shows around town. I have enjoyed sales at every exhibition.
