A Mi Kim
Jewellery Designer / Object Designer (Homebush, NSW)
A mi Kim is a Sydney based designer and maker specialising in jewellery, objects and textiles. She studied a Diploma of Textile Design in Korea, which created an interest in different materials besides fabric and working 3D on a larger scale.
A mi came to Australia in 2001 and completed an Advanced Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design in 2004 at the Design Centre, Enmore.
After graduating, she worked in the jewellery field for 2 years before returning to the Design Centre, Enmore as a full time staff member in the Jewellery Design and Trade Department. She also designs and makes her own one off pieces which are contemporary, timeless and affordable using a clever mix of materials and simple techniques.
A mi’s designs are mostly inspired by her daily life. She is very interested in playing with various materials like metal, fabric, thread and paper. She loves their form, pattern and colours and is influenced by movement and space – the spaces between objects, negative spaces, and the hidden interior spaces of objects.
