Lois Brewitt "Dalais Design"
Jewellery Designer (Alexandria, NSW)
I love colour, and I love unusual things. I prefer to call my work ‘wearable art’, rather than ‘jewellery’.
I have been creating my pieces for a couple of years ago, starting out with simple bead on tigertail, then progressing to the intricate and colourful pieces I love doing today. Each piece takes at least a week to make – four or fives hours per night, and they are all unique pieces. During the day I work as a graphic designer, but my passion is jewellery.
I use mainly seed beads because you can get such a myriad of colours in various sizes. I usually like to add a bit of fun – such as a koi fish or a seahorse – which I often make myself from polymer clay if I can’t find what I want elsewhere. One of my many ‘crafty’ endeavours over the years has been sculpting dolls, for which I received a number of first prizes in competitions – hence my love of sculpture and drive to create something different. My first attempt at jewellery design won first prize in the amateur open section of a nationwide competition run by ‘beadsetc’ magazine.
I get inspiration for my pieces from many places – the colours of the Australian outback, a tropical reef, a field of French lavender – an idea pops into my head and I rush home to start creating!
I am happy to answer any questions if you want to contact me. I’m also happy to create something ‘special’ just for you. I live in Newtown in Sydney, but will happily post to you anywhere.
