Anne
Harkin is a Melbourne-based percussionist specialising in Middle Eastern
styles on darabouka, and African styles on djembe.
Anne
has long been involved in the drum and dance scene in Australia. She
performed Middle Eastern drumming with Ta,esh Fa,esh and the haBiBis.
With the technofluoro outfit Short Circuit there were both West African
and Middle Eastern elements. With BeatWise, a traditional Guinean music
group featuring Mohamed Bangoura, she produced a CD.
Anne
has studied in Ghana, Gambia and Guinea, and has developed a strong
reputation in Australia as a Middle Eastern-style percussion performer
and teacher. She appeared in the SBS-screened documentaries "Red
Light In Full Flight" and "Beating The Drum", and produced
her own darabouka teaching video, which can be ordered via her website
below.
Anne
currently performs in a number of combinations, bands and duos. These
bands play at a variety of venues - local municipal festivals, folk
and world music festivals, Middle Eastern weddings and celebrations,
techno raves, children's school shows, restaurants and private functions.
Anne
also has creative interested in textile arts, photography and stencilling.
