Emanuel Lieberfreund
Flute/ Saxaphone / Percussion (Sydney,
NSW)
Emanuel Lieberfreund studied jazz and classical flute
at the NSW Conservatorium. He now plays flutes, saxophone and percussion
in a wide variety of styles, and performs poetry over music, sings,
and even dances when the spirit moves him – all to share the joy
of music by any means possible. Emanuel has a jazz / funk / world band
called Flight and plays with other bands.
High profile gigs over the last six months as of Jan 2005
include: the Manly Jazz Festival with Flight; and three Basement gigs,
with Jeremy Harrison (blues), Duppy (hip hop) and the Zion Band (reggae).
Emanuel has also played many corporate gigs, weddings and other private
functions, including gigs for the Manly Chamber of Commerce with Afrofunk
(salsa). He is looking forward to playing at the Basement with Flight
in March.
Emanuel plays regularly at Sydney Northern Beaches restaurants:
with Flight at Out of Africa and the Artichoke; with Manuela Frehlau
(folk and jazz, ex James Morrison Band) at the Manly Pier and Whale
Beach Restaurants; and with the Feel Rhythm Band (African percussion)
at Sea la Vie.
He also enjoys playing for film, dance and theatre, such
as when he composed and performed the music for a production of Hamlet
at the Seymour Centre.
