Mark
Hansen
Pianist
& Composer
(Northern Beaches, Sydney)
Mark's
love of music probably comes from a long line of ancestors whose musical
and theatrical achievements were quite extraoardinary. This includes
a great aunt who could play the piano backwards, and a great great grandmother
who started her own theatre company at a late age and toured England,
South Africa and Australasia. His own piano was inherited from a decendant
of that lineage when he was 7 years old. He immediately started working
out tunes and writing numbers on the piano keys in pencil to remember
them.
Mark's
passion for composing continues to this day with 3 albums of piano music
and well over 500 unpublished songs and instrumental pieces. He has
written pieces for orchestra, choir, and various types of bands (jazz,
rock, pop). But his favourite instrument is still the piano.
Way
back in 1991, his piece "The Wedding" won 2nd prize in the
Sydney Eisteddfod. Mark's music has been used on an album of poetry,
and in several short films, most recently in a video to save the Grey
Nurse Shark, shown at the 2004 Royal Easter Show.
Of
his work, Mark says "My aims in music are beauty, optimism, self-development,
expression and connection."
