Paul
Fogarty
Singer
& Songwriter (Sunshine Beach, QLD)
Born and raised in a cloud of DDT and other popular
farming chemicals of the time, singer-songwriter Paul Fogarty spent
his childhood years in and out of hospital wards and lost two of his
five senses...smell and taste somewhere along the way. "Growing
up on the farm was a strange cocktail of uproarious fun times, mixed
with life-endangering farmwork, chemicals, and heavy machinery,"
Fogarty says.
Fogarty began writing songs and poems at age 15
and has written more than 600 songs since. "All these songs just
started coming into my head all the time when I was about 15 years old...and
they´ve never stopped coming." Fogarty has released two successful
independent albums (BREATHE in 2001 and STAGEFRIGHT in 2003), both to
critical acclaim and both with radio airplay on ABC FM radio in Australia.
Paul´s 2nd independent album STAGEFRIGHT was
named ABC Coast FM radio Album of the Week on its release. One song
from his debut independent album BREATHE was included on ABC Music´s
regional songwriter compilation THE MOVING BREEZE. The title track from
STAGEFRIGHT can be heard on ABC Radio´s OZTRAX web radio site.
Fogarty was awarded an Australia Day medal for services to the community
for his role in jointly organising the highly successful fortnightly
songwriter showcase The Peregian Originals with friend and fellow musician
Jay Bishoff.
Fogarty has played support for Status Quo in Germany,
Red Kid and the Barleyshakes in Dublin, and Karma County and Miles From
Nowhere and Women in Docs in Australia.
Of his work, Paul states "Any good art, to
me, serves two purposes at one time. It attempts to help people forget
themselves and their troubles and woes and all the normal baggage...
and it does this by simultaneously reminding them somehow of who they
really are. As a songwriter, that is always at the base, at the root,
of what I am trying to do."
Paul is interested in connecting with other songwriters,
musicians and singers. His CD Stagefright is available for purchase
via his website below.
