Richard
Cabrita
Percussionist
(Gorokan, NSW)
Richard was born in Portugal, and from
his culture has come a love and knowledge of Latin percussion. He plays
congas as his main instrument, along with bongos, timbales, djembe,
adufe (Portuguese tambourine) and some Brazilian percussion instruments,
and auxiliary percussion such as tambourines, triangles, cowbells etc.
He has been playing percussion for 8 years. For the first
6 months he studied with a drum set, which taught him how to read music.
He then spent the next 4 years learning with Sunil da Silva. Sunil imparted
knowledge of the congas and auxiliary percussion instruments especially
studio techniques and playing with bands. Since then Richard has been
learning and acquiring instruments and knowledge from around the world.
He travelled to Portugal and Spain to learn about the
adufe, and had the opportunity to learn with some very gifted musicians
from the aforementioned countries as well as percussionists from Brazil.
Upon his return to Australia he commenced a bachelor of music.
Richard is available for collaborative work with bands;
d.j.'s or singer song writters in the studio or live, and is interested
in connecting with other DJ.'s, bands and producers.
