Anita Kim
Abstract Painter / Mixed Media (Strathfield, NSW)
Anita Kim is a young emerging contemporary artist specialising in custom design abstract art. She is driven by the philosophy that “creative people exhibit a constant discontent with uniformity” (unknown). She has found expression through art as a channel to release her creative energy, by predominantly using acrylic painting on canvas, ink and in mixed-media.
Anita was originally born in South Korea and she graduated with a Bachelor of Secondary Education degree at the University of Sydney, having had majored in English and completed studies in Fine Arts in 1998. She then pursued further studies in Fine Arts at the Sydney Gallery of Art school in 2002, majoring in painting and drawing to further fine tune her artistic skills set.
Anita’s artworks exhibit the use of symbolic motifs and the ingenious use of vibrant and life inducing colours which have been a common thread in her recent paintings. She believes that composition and colour co-ordination may take greater precedence in abstract art than the subject matter itself. This is because representing concrete images and distorting them into fragments or anything where the subconscious takes you relies heavily on appreciating the relationship between certain colours. We take the following colours for granted but the following colours insinuate the following; blue-intellectual, red-physical, yellow-emotional, green-balance just to list a few.
She states:
“I have always been intrinsically driven to challenge the mundane. One of the outlets in which I achieved this is by documenting my sub-conscious thoughts through abstract forms and experimenting with composition and texture via many forms of creative communication. Hence, creative expression through these means provide an ideal avenue for my creative energy to be released. The essence of my paintings employ an unique experimentation of how paint, and (texture-creating matter such as) impasto has on the drying and layering effects on the canvas and how ink runs to mingle with wet paint which is notably contemporary and abstract. I thrive in being able to create an art form that complements the décor of an interior”.
Some of her works transpire a subtle connection with Pollock, Kandinsky, and Picasso as epitomised in both her paintings and in her mixed-media artworks as a result of travelling to Europe in 2006.
Anita has started her own business working as a custom-design abstract painter. She has gained valuable experience working as a volunteer in the creative arts department at Hillsong Burwood over the last few years. She now collaborates with interior designers to create custom-design paintings that would complement the colour scheme of an interior.
Anita will be delighted to discuss the needs of potential customers. For more information on Anita’s artworks, visit her website below. She is available also for commission work and is keen in connecting with galleries and other exhibition opportunities. For information please email her below, or call 0416 160 583
