Christine Bateman
Painter (Perth WA)
Chris, born in the UK in 1951, emigrated to Australia in 1982, having a fascination with colour and abstract art from an early age, Chris began to study and paint in 2000, she was influenced by 'New York school' and studied the paintings of Rothko, Hans Hoffman, Milton Resnick, Paul Klee Jackson Pollock, to name a few. Chris set up her workshop at home, and sold her early paintings to family, friends and associates and exhibited at the Swanbourne barracks exhibition in August 2004 in Perth.
For the last five years, working from her home studio, Chris had experimented, practiced, and pursued her technique, style, and design.
She has evolved into a layerist painter who likes to use the gestural stroke, non referential gestural marks representing landscape, nature atmosphere and sometimes abstract shapes and images. Her paintings are created by layering the paint until the colours and images unite to create an exciting work of art. Chris' inspiration in her painting comes from imagination, memories and emotion.
