Joanne Duffy

Joanne’s artistic talents go back to her child as a prolific drawer, influenced by her painting mother and creative family. Progressing through to the tertiary level with studying Graphic Design at Curtin University. A change of state to Victoria saw her career develop into large-scale publishing, training and staff management and finally into a software analysis career.

After having children, Joanne and her family returned to Perth and returned to graphic design work in freelance capacity alongside heading a local charity organization in perinatal mental health. Joanne is still an active consumer representative with Beyondblue.

Around 7 years ago Joanne pursued her love of painting and has continued to develop her style and interest in an expressionist abstract style. 2011 will see the continued investigation into the impact memory and emotional responses to landscape has an impact on our character. The emotional resonance of childhood experiences creates the mood for Joanne’s intense use of colour. The longing for the nostalgic years of the carefree, Joanne’s work often depicts the quiet and solitary moments. The inspiration of the natural world through young eyes and the love of the rural outdoors are great influences for Joanne’s work.

As an abstract expressionist, Joanne is interested in the continual development into the investigation of painting, its properties, versatility and nature. Working in a variety of painting media, predominantly acrylic on canvas, Joanne draws inspiration from the natural environment, seeking to achieve an abstraction of how we relate to a sense of place, time and emotion.
