Mark
Kingston
Fine Artist (Northern
Beaches, Sydney NSW)
Mark
Kingston was born in October, 1978 in the Northern Beaches area of Sydney.
From a young age he knew that art was his calling, and as he got older
his passion for fine technique and detail led to an interest in many
areas of realism. However, it wasn't until Mark started his fine arts
degree at the University of Sydney that his style became more defined.
This was where he first tried his hand at something that suits him so
perfectly: painting. His decision to develop this skill was made concrete
when one day he stumbled upon a book about Photorealism and knew that
this style would allow him to work to his full potential.
Going
against the trend for abstract art, Mark pursued his painting with unrelenting
determination. After completing his Bachelor degree he was offered an
apprenticeship by an established American photorealist who exhibits
in New York. During his 3-month stay in America, Mark learnt many invaluable
skills from this successful artist.
Back
in Australia, Mark began creating his own body of work. Armed with new
knowledge, he created several highly photographic works including Red
Car and Suzuki 250, which won him 1st and 2nd places consecutively in
the 2001 National Australian Airbrush Awards. His work was also recognized
by Sydney's Museum of Contemporary Art, which chose him as one of 10
finalists in the under-25 section for inclusion in its online gallery.
In
the last couple of years, Mark has won several prizes in local art contests.
His talent has also been acknowledged by several Sydney newspapers and
magazines, all of which noted the determination and great abilities
of this exciting young artist.
