Melanie Baulch
Painter (Beelbangera, NSW)
Melanie is from the Riverina in NSW and works part-time in the arts field. In her free time she loves to paint as well as indulging in her other interests of birdwatching, photography and growing local native plants.
Abstraction, modernism, design and colour have always fascinated her and different aspects of these are to be found in her work.
Despite sketching and taking many photographs she finds it is her distilled recollections of previous experiences that find their way onto the canvas when she begins painting.
Her formal art training began at Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney 2004 . She attended Charles Darwin University, Alice Springs 2006-7 and National Art School, Sydney 2008. In 2010 she attended a group workshop in Tuscany.
Melanie has exhibited paintings in groups and competitions since 2004. She has held successful exhibitions at Cottage Gallery Griffith, Griffith Regional Art Gallery, Griffith Regional Theatre Art Space and Studio 12 Alice Springs.
Painting for Melanie is about endeavouring to translate observations and experiences of life onto canvas.
She draws upon real physical landscapes and those developed in her imagination from past experiences. She works intuitively, with speed and passion. The magic of her work is when her natural intuition and learned skills come together onto the canvas. Here new realities are created for people to relate to.
Melanie likes the spontaneous creative energy to show through her work.
Awards she has received for painting include:
Finalist Casella Art Prize 2011
Prize Winner Casella Art Prize 2010
