Wayne
Churcher Visual Artist (Frenchs
Forest, NSW)
Contemporary
expressionist artist, Wayne Churcher has a passion for dealing with issues both
personal and universal. His works reflect an affinity with volumes, depth and
texture, a starkness with minimal and subtle use of colour. Rather than keeping
to a particular style, Wayne challenges himself to use various styles as well
as different choices of media to be part of his expression. Wayne
discovered art out of necessity. From the age of three, severe asthma left him
sometimes unable to move from a chair for days at a time. Unable to sleep, night
after night he drew until sunrise. Wayne has had no formal art training. However,
decades of life classes, courses in graphic art and printmaking as well as his
own personal research has equipped Wayne with skills across many media types:
painting, dry pastel, etching, aquatint, drypoint, woodcut, linocut and bone carving.
Wayne has been inspired and influenced by such artists as Caravaggio, Picasso,
Durer, Francis Bacon, Clifton Pugh, Jackson Pollock and Leunig. Wayne
is a member of several arts groups including Warringah Printmakers Studio, Forestville
Painting Group, Fuel4Arts and visualarts.net.au. He is interested in connecting
with local painters and contemporary artists on the northern beaches in Sydney.
