Lisa-Maree
Botticelli
Photography (Sydney)
Lisa
was born in Sydney, Australia. In 1997, while studying Arts Management,
and completing a Diploma in Art History and Appreciation at the Art
Gallery of NSW, she discovered her passion for all forms of art making.
And while on holiday in Melbourne Lisa discovered
photography as a fulfilling medium for her to express what she saw and
felt about nature and the events of the world. After taking photographs
of a historical site, she was delighted at what she had captured during
a time of happiness, relaxation and peace. She put these photographs
away in a drawer and forgot about them until a year later when she met
someone who happened to be curating an exhibition. The Curator was looking
for exhibitors and after showing her photographs Lisa was invited to
exhibit. It was at this exhibition a private collector first bought
Lisa's photographs.
Later, Lisa was inspired to undertake
a Bachelor of Creative Arts at the University of Wollongong, where she
discovered textiles and a love of dyeing fabrics naturally using plant
materials. Since then she has exhibited in a number of exhibitions including,
Heads, Next, Multiples as well as co-curating an exhibition, 'Out of
the Closet' at the Long Gallery, Wollongong.
After completing a Masters of Sacred
Theatre and Creativity Coaching, Lisa now works as a Creativity Coach
helping people to 'connect to their soul through art and nature.'
"I am very interested in art as
a way of listening to the soul and I have found it an invaluable tool
for self-expression and healing."
In 2003, she completed a short film,
'Cry of the Beloved' which was about the effects of colonisation and
the devastating effects it has had on the land. This devastation has
endangered people who have been torn from their land. This film was
part of a community healing performance also.
The themes in Lisa's work are inspired by the natural
world, deep ecology and the beauty of a child's imagination using fairytales.
