Christina
Khumari Sculptor & Goldsmith
(Mullumbimby, NSW) Over
twenty years sculpting in gold and precious stones have honed Christina's skills
to a fine degree. Now the wider arenas of painting and sculpture provide a whole
new way to present her multi-faceted talents. Working in steel,
plastic, glass, ceramics, plaster, paper and paint offers Christina an opportunity
to explore a number of explorative dimensions and ways of presenting her art.
After a period of introspection, study and investigation, Khumari has now entered
a whole new phase of her expressive career. Since 1984, Christina
has been practising fine contemporary custom goldsmithing and fine art practice.
Extensive travel and work in Europe, Asia and America informed and honed her skills
and design expertise. After four years studying visual art & specifically
sculpture, she is now emerging as a sculptor of some note. She
has exhibited extensively around Australian, including solo exhibitions at Groundfloor
Gallery (Sydney), Lismore Regional Gallery (NSW), Cape Gallery (Byron Bay, NSW),
Sanctuary Cove (Gold Coast, QLD) and McWhirters (Brisbane, QLD). "That
place where one thing becomes another, where realistic images become abstract,
where abstraction becomes recognisable, where everyday objects become strange
and strange becomes fascinating, that is the place where all the possibilities
exist. That is the place that I attempt to draw out and bring attention to, that
place in all of us that is full of wonder".
