Heron Kirkmoe
Sculptor (Moana SA)
Heron’s art practice is diverse, raw, unpredictable and accidental!
Her steel sculptures reflect the influence of both industry and nature. New and reclaimed materials are often sourced not surprisingly by chance.
Steel, aluminium, wire, stone, paper and fabric have formed the body of her work to date. Materials once valued, considered state of the art, loved - often find their way to scrap heaps. Could this be a reflection of societal trends?
Heron believes her sculptures give junk yard scrap a second shot at relevance. ‘Junk has soul!’
Heron’s steel sculptures reflect the influence of both industry + nature. She is currently working on a suite of ‘sustainable’ plants.
Heron has exhibited at the Le Junk + Surf Icon exhibitions, Stirling Fine Arts and Robe Southern Ocean Art Prize, The Dune Room Gallery + with the Royal South Australian Society of Arts where she was awarded a certificate of merit.
She has fervently embraced the opportunity to exhibit during SALA 2009. A sculpture is included in the City of Onkaparinga’s art collection.
Artists Statement
‘My work is a suggestion rather than a demonstration’ says the sculptor whose penchant is to breathe new life into scrapped materials.
