Leonel Sanchez Sanchez
Sculpture (Manly, NSW)

Leonel is Venuzuelan-born and has travelled extensively, giving away a career in mechanical engineering to study art in Australia. He currently resides in Manly.

He is a figurative artist who works in different media from sculpture, painting and multi-media (digital) and is primarily interested in exploring the human condition. In addition he is fascinated by different cultures, taking inspiration for his art from his travels and his own cultural background.

Born in the Venuzuelan capital Caracas in 1965, Leonel completed his mechanical engineering degree before travelling South America, Central America and North America. In 1991 he studied sculpture in Caracas and moved to Sydney in 1993.

Since moving to Australia Leonel has continued his studies in sculpture and fine art and spent 1998 as an artist in residence in Brussels, Belgium.

Leonel has had four solo exhibitions in Australia and has been shown in 16 group exhibitions. He has taught sculpture in Venuzuela and currently teaches art in Sydney, as well as a side-line as a salsa teacher!
