Sculpture (Perth, WA)
Will Huntley is a self-taught sculptor who works in various
mediums such as foam, clay, aerated concrete, steel and everything in
between and has the ability to sculpt in various styles such as: Neo
Classical, Realistic, Figurative, Abstract, Contemporary, and many more.
Born and raised in the United States Pacific Northwest,
Will spent a large portion of his adolescence on his fathers quarter
horse ranch in Californias San Joaquin valley. From there he joined
the U.S. Navy and spent 4 years serving his country and travelling the
world. After his honorable discharge he was accepted to the Art Institute
of Seattle where he studied and graduated 2nd in his class in Industrial
Design Technology. Shortly after graduation it was off to sunny L.A.
to work in the movies. For 5 years Will worked in the special effects
industry sculpting and mouldmaking for films (Alien 4, Starship Troopers,
Austin Powers, Bicentennial Man, and others!), commercials and television.
He then spent one year at a international industrial design firm modeling
and moulding prototypes for multinational clients, such as Nokia, Nordictrac,
Stairmaster, Mitsubishi and many more!
Since moving to Perth with his West Australian born wife,
he has started Huntley Sculpture and Design. For the past four years
he has designed and sculpted signage, prototypes, statues, fountains
and adventure playground areas for private and industrial clients. These
projects are as diverse as are the sculptors talents. Projects
ranging from a 5m tall, life-size, Humpback whale tail for the Perth
Maritime Museum to the 30cm tall resin and terrazzo David Brand Award
for tourism to a 2.5m tall abstract steel sculpture set in a sculpted
Aerated concrete base.
Recently, in between projects, he has started lecturing
on sculpture and casting at a few of the local universities and is hoping
to work with other local sculptors in the near future.
Of sculpting, Will says"Anything that can be thought
up can be realised in 3 dimensions. Anything. Those who say otherwise
need to step out of the way."
