Rupert
da Costa e Silva
Spoken Word Artist / Writer / Filmmaker (Coburg, VIC)
Rupert is a graduate from RMIT University with a Bachelor degree in
Media Studies. He has a strong interest in subversive writing, especially
the erotic, which endeavours to be radical and break conservative conventions.
He began his writing life in spoken word after meeting the performance
poet John Giorno. He has made several short films, and film is still
a great passion in his life. Influences include writers and filmmakers
such as Henry Miller, Charles Bukowski, Fernando Pessoa, Joao Cesar
Monteiro, Dorothy Parker, Charles Baudelaire, Hal Hartley, Peter Greenaway,
Alfred Jarry, and many more.
Rupert is a libertine at heart, his existence reflected
in a sensual illusion that demands thoughts and moods entwined within
everyday existence
to be given the freedom of truth and experimentation.
Rupert has performed spoken word in various cities around Australia.
In Sydney he was a resident at The Natural High cafe in Darlinghurst
and performed regularly at the Carpet Room in Surry Hills. In Brisbane
he had residency at Browsing on Browning and read every week on The
Mens show 4ZZZ. In Melbourne he emceed for two years at The Arthouse
in North Melbourne and six months with RMIT's writing group Visible
Ink at Bar Open. His spoken word cd single (which he confesses is about
as marginal as you can get, spoken word and a single) has been played
on many radio stations around the world from Albuquerque to Châlons-en-Champagne
in France.
Ruperts radio play "Groggy Sprogs" was broadcast on 4ZZZ
and his short film "The Film that John Lennon Couldn't Make" has
sceened in over fifteen film festivals. His one act confession "Brothers
be Gang-Banging" had a ten show season as part of the Melbourne
Fringe Festival 2003, and his erotic poetry has been published on various
websites.
He is currently about to complete his Master’s in Media Production
at RMIT, perform his first feature length adult film role in Poison
Apple Production’s ‘The Band’ aimed at the women’s
erotica market, and shoot his first feature film. Also recently appearing
on the ABC’s “The Einstein Factor” with the speciality
topic of “The Life and Times of Errol Flynn”.
