The scope of Sue’s work covers jewellery, clothing and furniture design, interior decoration and floral art. She has a slightly unorthodox approach in her use of materials; she displays a high regard for whimsy and a sense of fun, while producing work which is nevertheless grounded in classic line and function.

Every piece has a story and is not for the faint-hearted.  There is a feast of layers and elements of surprise which intrigue and delight. Conservatism loses its grip in Sue Hall’s, witty and irreverent treatment of classic furniture.

Some pieces of furniture, like some people, undoubtedly have the Wow factor.  This can be defined as a perfect synthesis of the right components in a unique combination of layers and textures according to the designer’s aesthetic judgement. The combination of vintage chairs, with their classic lines reflecting comfort and durability, with a whimsical and witty surface treatment is what makes this furniture literally unique and thoroughly intriguing. 

Sue has devised a clever balance between the old and the new by combining beautiful old armchairs that have aged with time and memories, with new fabrics and leathers that explore unexpected design and create a whole new set of stories

Her floral work showcases her designer’s eye with a witty sophistication and a real delight in the eye-catching possibilities of working in this most beautiful of media.

She often turns to the most familiar everyday materials to create unexpected and delightful objects of desire.  She uses Meccano washers, safety pins, jigsaw pieces tiny rubber bands, zip sliders and – her latest innovation – Anaglypta wallpaper to create eccentric and eminently wearable jewellery pieces
Working with a client, Sue has a particular talent for interpreting the client’s most obscure or embryonic idea and producing a mutually satisfying result.  The self-assurance of Sue’s designs comes from a background of immersion in design-based studies, teaching, and an extensive practical experience in the field.  Consequently, collaboration can produce a very personal and sophisticated realisation of a concept either in interior design or in a one-off outfit for a special occasion.
