Frank Barresi
Performance Artist / Visual Artist (Mt Waverly VIC)
In 1994 Frank Barresi began creative writing and attended many open mic venues. In 1998 he completed his first manuscript which was a non-linear abstract that represents his identity. This discovery of his identity led Frank to the representation of that identity through characters he performs on stage. In 1999 Frank graduated from The University of South Australia, School of Art where he majored in sculpture. Since then Frank has expressed him-self in most mediums of the visual and performing arts. In 2000 Frank went to Melbourne to further his studies and broaden his horizons. This move toward greater independence created a new level of creativity from which Frank’s current art has evolved.
In 2002 Frank sold a sculpture called smash vision:
It was placed in RMIT Caffiene (cafe) where it has remained and still shines. It is made of clear plastic and has broken mirrors imbeded in it that is lit up from within with a light source. In that same year Frank sold a painting in St Kilda. Frank asked a couple to hold a pose of kissing for half an hour as he completed the painting in a cafe. This same image took the interest of Riddley Scott (director of “Blade Runner”). He was interested in the ink painting but it had been sold a little before he had the chance to purchase it. Frank met twice at a restaurant where they spoke about the potential for Frank to create a special art work for him. Unfortunately Scott became too busy with the film “Black Hawk Down” which he was working on at the time.
Frank completed the Diploma of Visual and Performing Arts, which in turn led to a Masters degree. As a result Frank was able to further explore and develop the characters of his identity. Since then Frank has performed on a regular bases in places such as Melbourne, Adelaide, China and Sth Korea. More than 30 performances since 2000 have been enjoyed immensely by everyone at the events.
