John
Bartlett brings thirty years of experience in the field of community
development in both Southeast Asia and Australia to his current writing
projects. He formerly worked for nine years as a Catholic priest in
the southern Philippines.
For
the last two years his features and profiles have focused on social
issues and politics and been published in The Age, The Canberra Times,
Good Weekend, The Big Issue and Eureka Street.
He
is currently researching a non-fiction book, Changing Direction Mid-Stream,
which relates the stories of men re-making their lives after redundancy
or major life crisis.
His
fiction manuscript, Archipelago-Islands of the Heart tells the story
of a young idealistic Australian priest who works in the Philippines
during the Marcos era, who must fight for his own survival against increasingly
violent political and military events.
John
teaches creative writing in Geelong and works as a freelance editor
and numbers among his clients Deakin University and The City of Greater
Geelong. Recently his short story 'Hey, True Blue' was a winner in the
2004 Midsumma Festival, Melbourne and his story 'Belladonna' published
in the first edition of Splatter
Magazine. He
writes regularly for The Geelong Times and performs his poetry and stories
in public.

is interested in connecting with other like-minded writers and artists.
