Its countdown time for the largest regional arts event in Australia with great anticipation from delegates, stakeholders, sponsors and conference organisers alike.
In just two weeks Queensland Arts Council, Regional Arts Australia and Mackay City Council will present The Pacific Edge Conference and prove that the spirit of the arts, especially in regional and remote areas, is alive and well.
Delegate registrations have affirmed the significance and fundamental role the arts play in the regions. With over 700 registered delegates and less than 50 places remaining, CEO/Artistic Director, Queensland Arts Council, Mr Arthur Frame says, “this conference is a fantastic opportunity for the exploration of regional arts in new contexts, as participants from such varied backgrounds share in the unique experience that is The Pacific Edge.”
Commencing on Friday 15 September, a significant number of regional artists have taken this unique opportunity to promote their work to a wider audience. For an artist based in regional Australia, The Pacific Edge not only creates an opportunity for their work to be publicly acknowledged, but also fosters and encourages the artist to grow, develop and contribute to the arts industry.
One regional presentation that has generated immense interest from the registering delegates is Arts and Publishing: On the Edge, a discussion of the social, economic and cultural challenges and achievements of the national non-profit organization, Magabala Books based in Broome.
General Manager, Suzie Haslehurst is really looking forward to being in Mackay and meeting up with colleagues from all over Australia. “The thing about these conferences is that you come away feeling inspired and less isolated. I am always inspired by visiting a new place, seeing new things and the indulgence of three whole days totally immersed in the arts!“
