Ashley
Allan Band
Sydney
Singer/Songwriter
Ashley Allan completed a two-year song-writing arts course the School
of Creative Arts in Oxford Falls in 1996 and worked solo for some years
before eventually becoming the lynchpin for the "Ashley Allan Band,
which formed in mid-2002.
A late bloomer,
Ashley abandoned a 15 year career in Sales and Marketing to pursue his
life long dream of music and signed with Outback Music /Rim of the World
Publishing in 1997 with his first demo. His second demo, "The Message"
was released in 1998 in conjunction with Producer Chris O'Brien and
won a SCALA Award. (runner up best production).
The Band are best
described as a 'touch of world' Acoustic Ensemble- These guys are regulars
around 'The Beaches' acoustic gigs with their eclectic mix of powerful
emotive tunes tinged with social/political comment. You'll hear a smorgasbord
of influences from blues, pop, jazz, country, folk, latin to a splash
of gypsy flamenco. They've performed in such diverse places as Sydney's
Entertainment Centre, Canberra's Parliament House, Cummeragunja Aboriginal
Community, Goulbourn Gaol and Ashley has even put on a concert for the
beleaguered constabulary in the bombed out Police Barracks of war-torn
Bougainville.
The band's vision
is to leave people refreshed and to this end, they won the Northern
Beaches Music Award in March 2003 at the open mic night at Mona Vale
Hotel run by New Dawn Productions for "Open Mic Australia"
for: "the band that most makes you feel most like you're on holiday!"
"Although our
music is mostly cruisy, positive and refreshing, I write a fair proportion
of songs about political/social/spiritual issues and like to provoke
some thought and debate about some of the contentious topics currently
facing our society. (refugees, homeless, reconciliation etc).
