Funk
Shui Canberra,
ACT Formed in early 2003, FUNK SHUI is
a 10-piece old school funk band that has quickly established itself as Canberras
premier funk ensemble. First performing live in August 2003, their blend of tight
old school grooves and live show has infected even the stiffest of audiences at
venues including Toast, the Church Bar (formerly the Aree Bar), and Garema Place.
FUNK SHUI was also the featured house band for the NCA January 2004 series of
films (Moonlight Movies) at Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park and has performed
gigs for charities including the RSPCA and AIDS Awareness Week. The
ten members represent a wealth of musical talent and experience, bringing together
established members of the Canberra music scene and those in the Canberra School
of Music Jazz program. Female & male vocals combine with trumpet, saxophone,
and trombone to front a five-piece rhythm section of keyboards, guitar, percussion,
bass and traps. Together they bring you their own special brand of original funk
flavoured with the spices of the old school masters James Brown, The Meters, The
Commodores, Maceo Parker and Tower of Power, funk-inspired classics of Stevie
Wonder and Earth, Wind & Fire. Contact
