Headkase
Brisbane, QLD
Headkase are an
original 6-piece band from Brisbane, Australia. They could be described
as "circus-metal with a techno twist". While
they play largley to a gothic audience, their high-energy shows are
especially enjoyed by fans of Mr. Bungle, Fantomas, Vicious Hairy Mary,
Dog Fashion Disco, and other such abstract bands combining many styles
of music to create something a little fresher than your average metal
band.
The members of Headkase
are Nutty Spotswood (vocals), Dylan DK Star (bass), Tristan Sykes (rhythm
guitar), Raleigh Valemont (lead guitar) Toddy Hansen (drums) and Brett
Hansen (keyboard).
Influences include
Fantomas, Rammstein, Mr. Bungle, Slipknot, Ministry, The Bird, Hybrid,
Fear Factory, Soulfly, System of a Down, Portishead, NIN, Pantera, Napalm
Death, and many more.
Headkase are very
theatrical in their approach to live performances, believing that an
entertaining visual show enhances the music. If people only want to
hear the music, they can listen to the CDs. There's no point attending
a show just to see a group of people on stage in street clothes churning
out their songs while looking at their feet. Costumes, colour, high
energy, audience participation and fun makes for a good night of entertainment.
Headkase have performed
at various venues and events in Brisbane and supported bands including
SKINLAB (USA), KILLING JOKE (UK), SUNS OWL (Japan), 8 FOOT SATIVA (NZ),
JERK, THE TESTEAGLES, and DEVOLVED. Headkase's
"Where the Blood May Lead" video clip aired nationally on
ABC's "RAGE" programme.
"The six-piece
belt out a unique brand of eerie carnival-styled metal, combining the
industrial effects of a keyboard with pulsating drumbeats". Maree
Bedford - Time Off Magazine
"Their style
of death metal meets Mr. Bungle got some response from the crowd, which
had almost doubled by the end of their 30 minute opening set."
Simon Milburn - Rave Magazine
