The
Baddies
Sydney
The
Baddies are one of the loudest live acts performing around Sydney. They
have been rocking local venues for over 10 years, with their style of
unashamedly 'old school' punk in sound and attitude, but played with
the tightness of accomplished musicians - rare to that genre.
They
seem to prefer to play support spots at gigs so they can perform while
still sober and enables them to get in a few beers before the bar closes.
When playing live, Paul Heyward uses a cordless radio pick up on his
guitar which enables him to wander around the crowd, over to the pool
tables, up to the bar and out of the pub, across the street and back
up onto the stage without missing a note, while bass playing vocalist
John Morris and drummer John Butler keep a driving accompaniment.
Although
their live repetoir consists largely of covers of mainly British Punk
classics, their debut album The Baddies Worst consists of entirely original
material and an adaption of a classical piece (The Cannon by Pachabel).
It plays like a concept album humouresly chronicaling a weekend in the
life of The Baddies, displaying influences of reggae and experimental
music, proving them to be one of the most under rated punk bands in
Sydney.
The
Baddies perform regularly at th Botany View Hotel in Newtown as well
as various other support gigs and benefits. Watchout for The Baddies
music clip "In the Mood" currently being played on Rage *ABC)
and Blokesworld (Channel 31, Saturday nights).
