Trio
Nocturne is a subtle, sophisticated jazz trio bringing a slice of the New York
and European jazz sounds home to Melbourne. Trio Nocturne have an extensive repertoire
covering jazz standards from all jazz eras including composers such as George
Gershwin, Rogers and Hart, Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Van Huesen and Burke, Jerome
Kern and Duke Ellington to name only a small selection. The Trio also perform
arrangements of tunes by popular artists such as Radiohead, The Beatles and Simon
and Garfunkel, Bossa Novas, soul-drenched blues tunes and original material.
Trio Nocturne is the perfect ensemble for background or dinner music. The
trio creates a wonderful, sophisticated atmosphere that is unsurpassable and can
only be created by live, experienced musicians. Experts at working a crowd, Trio
Nocturne can underpin your event with exactly the right mood – creating a
classy, musical veneer or testifyin’ late into the light to get folks’
feet movin’! Trio Nocturne brings together three highly
talented, creative, engaging, and professional musicians, with many years experience
in the entertainment industry. Each is an exceptional performer in their own right,
and the dedication to their craft is obvious from the moment they begin to play
– they have a passion for playing together and playing the music they love.
Between them they have performed with some of Australia’s greats: Michelle
Nicole, Andrea Keller, the late Tom Baker, Steve Sedegreen, Bob Sedegreen, Michael
Spiby, Maria Lurighi, Geoff Hughes, Jeff Kluke, Nick Haywood, Mark Fitzgibbon,
Chris Hale, Matt Clohesy and Kevin Hunt among others. Trio
Nocturne is expandable to a quartet or quintet by addition of a vocalist and/or
saxophonist as required. A formidable command of the piano, an engaging approach and quick
witted, sophisticated music is the hallmark of Matt Boden’s style. A charismatic
performer formerly of the Apple Isle, Matt has fast established himself as a mainstay
on the Melbourne scene. Having recently completed a Master of Music degree that
included study with some of Australia’s most renowned musicians, Matt is
utterly committed to his craft. Michelle’s impeccable technique and glorious sound on the
double bass have made her hot property in and around Melbourne. Highly creative
and spirited, a Michelle Whelan performance is always a joy to behold.
A stalwart of the Melbourne jazz
and improvised music scene, Ben is one of Melbourne’s most sought after drummers.
Renowned for his delicate touch at the drums, Ben is a musician’s and audience’s
delight.
