Independent Australian publishing company Murdoch Books is hunting for a new illustrator, someone whose work has not yet been published in commercially released book form, to create the images for our forthcoming children’s title, The Monster Maintenance Manual, by author Peter Macinnis.
The Monster Maintenance Manual is due to be published in late 2010, initially in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.
Once registered, applicants will be given a brief to illustrate three monsters, using any
style of illustration. Digital and non-digital styles will be accepted, although entries must be sent digitally.
The competition winner will then be given the unique opportunity of illustrating the full suite of approximately 70 monsters, in collaboration with the author and Murdoch Books’ in-house design and editorial team. The winning illustrator will be awarded prize money of AU$10,000 and naming rights on the cover.
The judging panel is made up of award-winning author Peter Macinnis; Diana Hill,
a publisher at Murdoch Books; and Hugh Ford, one of Murdoch Books’ award-winning
design team.
