Archetype Gallery in Sydney are inviting submissions from
photographers, painters, mixed media, film, video, performing artists, sculptors etc, for an upcoming exhibition on the theme of "Metropolis".
In contemporary society Metropolis means a large city that is a hub of culture, politics, media, art, fashion, research, technology, education, global commerce, finance and entertainment. The word is derived from the Greek m?t?r meaning "mother" and pólis meaning "city"/"town", what the Greeks of antiquity referred to as their political-culture linked cities.
The Archetype Gallery is looking for artists to explore through the creative medium of Photography, Film/Video the theme METROPOLIS. Unearthing stimulating, intriguing and thought-provoking imagery, stories, revelations, that could reference the connectedness of the past and present meaning of the word Metropolis.
Finding similarities in the Metropolis of antiquity; Luxor, Damascus, Jericho, Athens, Rome, Pula, Anuradhapura, Zhenxun, Cholula, Acoma Pueblo to the Metropolis of today; London, Tokyo, Paris, Sydney, Milan, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Beijing and the ultimate modern Metropolis New York City.
