This year the Blake Prize celebrates its 60th anniversary. The three award categories are: 60th Blake Prize - $20,000, John Coburn Emerging Artist Award - $5,000 and the MUA Blake Prize for Human Justice - $5,000.
Since its inception in 1951, The Blake Prize has stimulated a fascinating dialogue between art and religion in all its manifestations in Australia. the Prize is named after the legendary British artist and poet William Blake (1757-1827) whose broad range of artistic and poetic innovations, visionary imagination and radical politics made him an outsider in his day.
Each year the Blake receives over a 1000 entries from artists around Australia addressing what most deeply engages them in life. They use diverse media and approaches and celebrate the nature of a complex multi-cultural country like Australia. Judges are chosen to recognise both the diversity of artistic practice and the range of personal responses to spirituality and the religious imagination.
