Jasmine Jan
Painter & Illustrator (Darwin NT)
I have studied with the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and travelled to the USA on 3 separate occasions to attend intensive technique training in a number of mediums used for scientific and wildlife illustration. My interests are in wildlife, natural history and conservation. I have an interest and love of Children's book illustration and wildlife art.
I have worked as a zookeeper specialising in birds and aquatic animals for many years and prior to that I worked in Marine sciences in a museum. I love to be connected to nature and live on a 105 acre property with natural bushland and a Paperbark billabong that attracts an amazing array of wildlife.
I have completed many workshops with master artists gaining experience and training in a number of mediums such as watercolour, pen and ink, chalk pastel, graphite and coloured pencil. I now run workshops myself for beginners to advanced in all mediums that I work with.
I have exhibited regularly for the last 5 years in solo and group exhibitions, including at the Guangzhou International Art Fair in China.
I am represented by Jahroc Gallery in WA and Tosari Gallery in QLD and am currently in the process of building a studio/gallery on my property where I plan to have exhibitions, run art workshops and provide private viewing opportunities for my clients.
In 1990 and 1992 I was awarded the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Scholarship to travel to the USA to undertake intensive Illustration technique training with leading wildlife and scientific illustrators from the US.
I have been commissioned to produce work for public and private collections and have recently launched a limited edition print collection of my East-West fusion watercolours.
I am inspired by mother-nature to paint and draw the plants and animals of my immediate environment. I hope that through my paintings and drawings viewers will appreciate the beauty of the subject matter and hope that my works bring a greater appreciation of our natural world which is precious and should be protected.
