Jessica Gordon
Painter (Bondi NSW)
I was brought up in a very artisitc enviroment, with my mother a ceramicist and an art teacher. And after high school I naturally progressed to study a bachelor of visual arts at USQ in Towoomba, QLD. There I was involved in many collaborative exhibitions.
Upon completion of my degree I moved to Sydney and in the last two years I have had two exhibitions and really engaged in the art of mark making- painting. I am heavily influenced by current world issues, such as the marginalization of women, and their success despite all they have faced, human rights & equality, environmental issues, etc. The technique is constantly evolving as my interests change, so my work is also influenced by pop art culture, landscapes, propoganda posters of ww1, tribal masks and the human body. My canvas is usually recycled cardboard or linen found on the streets or second hand shops, in order to reuse and reduce waste consumption.
I am also very attracted to colours and their relationship to one another; contrasting, complimenting, and I use acrylic for its quick drying and its manipulating qualities.
