Karen
Kennedy
lllustrator
(North Melbourne, VIC)
Karen is a self taught artist who has been
drawing since childhood. Her work focuses on the human form and portraiture.
Her
desire is to capture the character within the person, this is often
acheived by her skillful use of charcoal and pastel.
Many of her portraits
are large scale charcoal drawings framing the face in close up and
drawing the spectator right into the subject. As powerful as the
work is there is also a subtlety in the line work and tones.
Karen's
life drawing are equally as strong, and celebrate the beauty of
the human form beyond the stereotypical images depicted in glossy
magazines.
As well as using charcoal, Karen often varies
the work to include pastel, watercolors and ink. She has exhibited
at numerous community art exhibitions and recently won first prize
for one of her portraits.
If you like the examples of the work shown here commissions are welcome.
A charcoal portrait (one person) is $250 for a 77 x 57cm drawing. All
