Lucas Blacker
Master Jewellery Designer, (Sydney, NSW)

Lucas Blacker trained as a jeweller, and has been designing works since the late 1970’s. His jewellery has been exhibited and collected across Australia and overseas. He served his apprenticeship Sydney and worked for Kenneth Mansergh until 1985. He then founded Duo Style Jewellers with partner Gary Thyregod until 1989. At this time he travelled to England to explore more creative directions in jewellery.

After visiting various artistic communities and institutions around Britain  and Europe Lucas acquired a position as  a senior jeweller for Production Classics in Hatton Garden, London, who were producing work for some of the leading jewellers in Britain and Europe. In 1991 Lucas returned to Australia and established Golden Canvas Gallery in Balmain.

On returning to Australia in 1991  Lucas was accepted as a member of the Gold and Silversmiths Guild of Australia. This is the only Jewellery organisation in Australia to recognise a standard of proficiency. Each member or Fellow has there own Makers Stamp and  can use the guild Hallmark on their Jewellery - a
mark of Quality Craftsmanship.

Lucas specialises in 18ct gold, platinum gem set jewellery. He designs and creates extremely diverse and contemporary handmade jewellery, which is both individual and functional . He is continuously experimenting with new styles and techniques.

Lucas has been winning awards for his jewellery since 1986 when he awarded the Grand Prix in Australian Jewellery Design Awards. Also winning awards in the De Beers diamond awards, Australian Coloured Gemstone awards and Jewel of Adelaide. Lucas has exhibited his work in various exhibitions since1992.

During this time Lucas continued to exhibit a growing number of  contemporary craft artists at his Balmain Gallery. In the 10 years the Gallery had over 70 exhibitions of artists including ceramicists , glass artists, printmakers and sculptors.

In 2001 Lucas closed the gallery in Balmain and became Head designer for Cerrone Jewellers, till 2004
In this period of time Lucas designed the new collections for Cerrone Jewellers and custom designed commissions for clients. He also co-ordinated the overseas exhibitions in Japan and Korea, and designed for corporate commissions and developed new business directions.

Since 2004 Lucas has been crafting Fine Jewellery from his Earlwood Studio in Sydney’s inner west.
