Magie Maule
Painter (Lane Cove, NSW)
Born in the UK, Magie entered Newcastle University, Kings College and completed a 4 year degree course where she studied under Victor Passmore and Richard Hamilton on the inaugural Basic Course. She was awarded a BA (hons) in Fine Art, and a Hutton Scholarship at the end of the degree course. She worked as an assistant lecturer in Basic Course at Gloucestorshire College of Art UK, and later at Hornsby College of Art in London on the vocational course.
Magie has also worked in freelance design and painting, part time lecturing at East Ham Technical College (History of Art, Design and Aesthetics) while persuing her own painting career.
She moved to Sydney with her film director husband and two small children and started a "Paint Finish" business. Her work has appeared in many magazines and on TV, and she has painted houses all over Sydney, specialising in trompe l'oeil. She has also written six books on stencilling and decorating, published by Harper Collins and has lectured for many years at Sydney Community College.
Magie currently exhibits with the Lane Cove Art Society, Drummoyne Art Society and at the Hunters Hill Art Show. Last year she won the modern section at Drummoyne Art Society open show. She has participated with the Greenwich Group and has had two successful solo shows in Greenwich. Magie is currently preparing for a solo show in England.
Magie is interested in light and dark, and often paints nightscapes. Water is also one of her favorite subjects with its shifting patters of reflected light. She specialises in evocative, decorative landscapes, cosmic spacescapes and womens themes (birth, death, orgasm).
