Marie Larkin
Painter, Illustrator, Mixed Media Artist (Moore Creek, NSW)
I am an artist and Visual Arts Educator. I graduated from Alexander Mackie in 1979 with a Bachelor of Art Education and have nearly thirty years experience in artistic practice.
Recently I have been largely focusing on whimsical stylised female figures, and imagery inspired by fairytale and nursery rhyme narratives, sometimes with revenge twists. These are very detailed works in acrylic on canvas or pencil, pen and ink drawings.
I had success in the 1990's as an embroiderer with a number of group and solo shows and two touring exhibitions through regional galleries in Tasmania, Victoria and New South Wales. My work was featured in Textile Fibre Forum, The Land and Masters of their Craft, a coffee table book by art historian, Norris Iannou. I have won The Dame Nancy Buttfield Embroidery Prize and The Namoi Valley Cotton Fibre Acquisitive Award. Through the Regional Galleries exhibition tour of Revealing Threads I was the recipient of a $10,000 Australia Council Grant that allowed me to travel to various towns and cities to give workshops.

Artists Statement:
I have a love of realism, tonal rendering, detail, surface and embellishment and these qualities link my works. I like to range between drawing in pen,to pencil, to oilstick and charcoal. I paint, work in mixed media and collage, and from time to time I make 3D works and prints as well. My images can be highly realistic to stylized, whimsical and playful.
