ITSIA
- Indigenous Torres Strait Islander Art
www.itsia.com
Indigenous Torres Strait Islander Art (ITSIA) is an Australian
web portal promoting Torres Strait Islander Art,
whilst
promoting cultural
identity
and supporting cultural independence.
The ITSIA website features profiles of Torres Strait
Islander artists and an online gallery where people can browse affordable
artworks for the home, office or that special
gift.
Michelle Bell and Scott Elphinstone founded the ITSIA
website in 2005. After residing in Torres
Strait during 2003 – 2005, they conceived the idea of promoting
islander artists and obtained funding and support through the NEIS
program (New Enterprise Incentive Scheme) to launch ITSIA and bring awareness
of TS artists to the public.
Michelle is employed full time
as a Project Coordinator for local Council
and Scott works part
time with the YMCA youth skate program and is a visual artist. Every
moment of spare time is dedicated to developing ITSIA as a successful
project.
The collected dream for ITSIA is to grow to a size capable
of sustaining a Torres Strait Islander art specific gallery and studio
on the Australian
mainland.
