Ruth Le Cheminant
Painter (Wentworth Falls, NSW)

Ruth lives in the Blue Mountains, NSW. She studied art at the National Art School and later completed Postgraduate study at the University of New South Wales. 

The work of Ruth le Cheminant is a colourful, layered contemporary work.  The layering of the colours, the use of gesture and placement within the frame ensures the work delights the viewers eye. Ruth’s paintings are often described as ‘lyrical’ because of the wonderful use of colour in her work. Although best known for her work with polymer paint on canvas, Ruth also produces smaller work on canvas and paper such as prints and collages. Ruth has likened the painting process as “having a conversation with the canvas that only finishes when the composition is resolved and the painting satisfies”. 

The travels Ruth has undertaken in Australia and overseas has been an inspiration for her work. 

Ruth has had a number of solo exhibitions. She was invited last year to exhibit in a group exhibition ‘Out From Down Under & Beyond: Fine Art from Australia and New Zealand’ at Agora Gallery, Chelsea, New York in May this year and subsequent to that her paintings were displayed in the foyer of the William Morris Agency, New York for 3 months mid 2009.

Other highlights include the solo exhibitions ‘The Intuitive journey’ at Washhouse Gallery Rozelle in May 2008, ‘Taking the Long Way’ at Gallery HM Sydney 2007, exhibitions 2006 and 2000 at Orange Regional Gallery.

Ruth is well known as a Blue Mountains artist and exhibits in regular group and solo exhibitions in the area and beyond.
